THANK YOU FOR AN AWESOME 2021!

In 2001, a small group of river enthusiasts came together around the idea of building an organisation that would act as a voice for the Ottawa River. With the help of an unexpected groundswell of support, they built the foundation for Ottawa Riverkeeper.

Twenty years later, their dream of a self-sustaining organisation that speaks for the watershed, holds authorities to account, and builds strong, lasting communities around waterways is still going strong. With a dedicated community two decades in the making, we are so proud of what we can accomplish together.

We celebrated both our 20th anniversary, and the many successes for the river this year at our Annual Public Meeting, streamed live on December 7th. Presented by the Insurance Bureau of Canada, along with the support of many other fantastic sponsors, this was our opportunity to share what the river community has made possible this year. Laura Reinsborough, our new Riverkeeper, introduced herself to the community, and ran through some of the big wins, the cool new initiatives, and exciting updates about Ottawa Riverkeeper’s year in 2021. We also awarded our annual Water Leader award to four of the original founders of Ottawa Riverkeeper, Dan Brunton, Parham Momtahan, George Brown, and John Almstedt. If you missed the event, you can watch the recording here.

Celebrate this anniversary with us, and show off your support of our work, with merchandise featuring our limited time 20th Anniversary logo available to purchase.

CHASING A HEALTHY WATERSHED

The Annual Public Meeting included the World Premiere of our new mini-documentary, Chasing a Healthy Watershed, which highlights the amazing work of volunteers who are collecting data to give us a better picture of watershed health. We are so proud of the work that community based monitoring has been able to achieve thus far, and incredibly excited to continue to expand our Watershed Health Assessment and Monitoring initiative next year and beyond. You can now watch the documentary online. Give it a look, and share it!\

Thank you to everyone who has participated in Ottawa Riverkeeper’s programs and who have taken actions to care for and protect the rivers in the watershed.

2021 ANNUAL REPORT

We couldn’t cover everything that we accomplished this year in our meeting, and that’s where our Annual Report comes in. With updates on our major projects, a snapshot of our finances, and recognition of our community partners, this is a great place to get all the highlights of our work for the river in 2021. The report is available on our website in both languages, so give it a read!

Thanks again to everyone for making 2021 a fantastic year for the river, and for Ottawa Riverkeeper. We look forward to another year of water protection and advocacy with you all in 2022!
